Stress & Anxiety Relief
Practical anxiety relief, sorted by where the trouble actually is.
Anxiety is not one problem, and that is why one technique rarely covers it. The version that wakes you at four in the morning behaves differently from the version that arrives before a meeting, and both behave differently from the low background hum that never quite switches off. What helps depends on which one you are dealing with, and on whether the trouble is currently in your thoughts or in your body.
The articles here are sorted along those lines. If the feeling is physical — a tight chest, a fast pulse, hands that will not settle — start with the somatic exercises or the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique, both of which work through sensation rather than reasoning. If it is mental, and the same worry keeps circling, the journal prompts and the guide to overthinking at night are built for that. If it peaks at a predictable time, the morning anxiety guide sets out a first hour, minute by minute.
None of this replaces treatment for an anxiety disorder, and we say so in the pieces where it matters. What these practices do reliably is lower the intensity enough that the rest of the day becomes workable — which, most days, is the useful goal.
Where to start
- Somatic Exercises for Anxiety: 7 That Work on the Body — if it is mostly physical — tight chest, fast pulse, hands that will not settle.
- The 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique (Done Properly) — if you need something that works in sixty seconds, anywhere.
- Morning Anxiety: What to Do in the First Hour — if it is at its worst in the hour after you wake.
If none of those match, the journal prompts are a good way to work out what you are actually dealing with before choosing a technique. And if the anxiety is constant rather than situational, or it has lasted months, treat these as support alongside a professional rather than as a replacement for one — several of the articles say where that line sits.
